A Way with Words is an innovative leadership development program which offers students the opportunity to develop effective presentation and interview skills and practice their public speaking. Anyone seeking to develop their leadership skills must have an understanding and ability to effectively communicate. The ability to communicate enables a leader to inspire and motivate their members towards a common goal. Leaders must be able to inspire a shared vision for the future to be effective in their roles; this is not possible without a solid grasp of the fundamentals of public speaking.
Next Session: Managing Challenging Conversations
We often have to engage with people who see the world very differently than we do. It can be challenging to pick the right words and stay focused when the other person disagrees with us, especially when the topic is important. This workshop will focus on listening for understanding and exploring perspectives different from their own. Participants will gain tools to manage internal responses to conflict triggers. During this workshop participants will get a chance to practice de-escalation techniques and framing difficult conversations from their own lives.
The Center for Leadership & Involvement is excited to announce the launch of the Winter 2018 edition of “A Way with Words: Managing Challenging Conversations” This engaging and interactive program is open to all students in the University.
