The SLI is an exciting leadership development opportunity which offers students the opportunity to develop and practice their leadership skills through a variety of interactive workshops with faculty, staff, and UChicago alumni. 

Mission: The Student Leadership Institute (SLI) offers students an opportunity to practice leadership skills in areas that will contribute to the success of their personal, academic, and professional goals.  We strive to ensure that students are able to leverage the full value of their education so that they may go on to become effective and ethical leaders.

When does the program start? The SLI starts at the beginning of Winter Quarter and continues through the end of Spring Quarter (see Program Overview for exact dates).  Through a bi-monthly workshop-based curriculum and capstone project, we are eager to challenge students to continue to build on their experiences in new and exciting ways.

How can I get involved?  The SLI is open to 1st and 2nd Year College students with an interest in impacting the University of Chicago campus and community.  We are also searching for 3rd and 4th Year students and past SLI participants who will serve as peer facilitators.  We are looking for a cohort of 30 students that represents the diversity of the College.

In the most basic terms, we are looking for students who are established leaders (whether or not their positions come with titles) and students with leadership potential who want to build on their skill sets.  Prior leadership roles in high school or college are not required - rather, a demonstrated interest in creating change on campus and developing resources for students.  A desire to develop personal leadership and team building skills is required.
